Konrad Laimer discusses Ralf Rangnick impact amid Manchester United transfer links

Konrad Laimer is looking forward to being reunited with Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick when the German steps in as coach of the Austria national team. Rangnick will take on that role in conjunction with him moving upstairs as a consultant for the Old Trafford giants.

A new era awaits for United after Erik ten Hag was appointed as permanent successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Dutchman will first chase down another Eredivisie title with Ajax before moving to United.

His arrival comes as part of a wider shake-up behind the scenes - of which Rangnick will be part of alongside his commitments to the Austria national team. It is on that platform he will once again rub shoulders with Laimer after coaching him during his second spell as RB Leipzig boss.

Of course, that is where Laimer still plies his trade and the midfielder has been tentatively mooted as one potential target for United heading into the summer window. The 24-year-old has earned rave reviews at Leipzig since arriving from affiliated Red Bull Salzburg in 2017.

Speaking to German publication BILD before RB Leipzig meet Rangers in the semi-final of the Europa League on Thursday night, Laimer said: "I'm very happy he's going to be our coach. I know him well and know what he can do. I'm sure he can make us better as a team and each individual.

"I'm confident that we will have very successful years together. I'm also looking forward to seeing him again during the summer at our next training course."
