Kolkata STF arrests man from Madhya Pradesh's Khandwa over suspicion of links with ISIS

INDORE: Kolkata special task force on Monday afternoon arrested a 35-year-old man from Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh on suspicion of his links to the ISIS.

"Based on the inputs from Mohommad Saddam and Syyed Ahmed, the two Islamic State linkmen arrested from West Bengal on January 7, STF Kolkata arrested Abdul Raqib Qureshi, 35, resident of Adarsh Nagar in Khanshahwali colony. He is said to be an important link to the terror module," said Khandwa SP Vivek Singh.

Singh said that they were given information by the STF Kolkata after which a team helped them nab the accused on Monday afternoon.

Khandwa police sources said that material including laptops, mobile phone, hard disk, pen drives, notebooks and some literature was seized from the spot.

Abdul has been booked under section 121 (Waging war against the Government of India), 121 a (conspires to commit offense against the government), 122 (Collecting arms, etc., with intention of waging war against the Government), 123 (Concealing with intent to facilitate design to wage war), 120b (criminal conspiracy).

Meanwhile, Abdul's family members submitted a complaint to the Khandwa police on Monday night claiming that he was nabbed by the officials when he was on his way to his mechanic shop with his friend Faizal from the Masjid. They were not given any information on the arrest.

"When Faizal tried to ask where he was being taken, they pushed him to the ground," said Abdul Rashid, elder brother.

STF Kolkata police had on Friday night arrested two men for their suspected links with the ISIS. Mohommad Saddam, 28, and Syyed Ahmed, 30, were arrested from Vidyasagar Setu while they were allegedly on their way to a location in the city for a secret meeting. The accused were booked under section 121 (waging war against the Indian government) and 122 (collecting arms to wage war) of the IPC. while Saddam s an MTech dropout working in a Gurugram-based software company, Ahmed works in his father's firm. They were produced before the court and taken on 12-day police remand.

During questioning, the accused revealed many details based on which a team was sent to Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh to arrest Ahmed.
