Kolkata: Assault claim by Presidency University students

KOLKATA: Students of Presidency University on Friday said they were unable to exit the campus after around 50 alleged Trinamool supporters blocked the three gates of the institute. Trinamool Chhatra Parishad, however, denied the claim. A PG student said 10 students were attacked while they were returning home on Friday.

This is the second day when "outsiders" allegedly affiliated to Trinamool, abused students.

Two students were injured on Thursday and had to be taken to hospital. A large police contingent was present on College Street. PG student Ahan Karmakar said, "Nearly 70 students were stuck on the campus till 7pm."

"For the past few days, TMCP unit at Presidency has been indulging in various activities that posed a risk to safety of students," said secretary of SFI Presidency unit Adrija Karak.

Prantik Chakraborty, vice-president of state TMCP and unit observer at PU, said: "Our students were humiliated on Thursday and Friday. We were there outside to protect them."
