KOCHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy to very heavy rainfall for several districts in Kerala till June 22. Yellow alert has been issued for Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod on Sunday.
Also, squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 Kmph is likely to prevail over Kerala-Karnataka coast. Fishermen are advised not to venture into above sea areas till June 22.
Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod are on yellow alert from June 20 to 22.
According to 24-hour rainfall recorded on Saturday, Poonjar recorded the highest of 11cm while Neriamangalam received 9cm and Mannarkkad received 7cm. Kuppady got 6cm rainfall while Agathi recorded 5cm and Mankara, Vellarikkundu, Chimmini recorded 4 cm rainfall each. Konni, Munnar, Kudulu, Seethathode, Keerampara, Kannur airport and Mattannur recorded 3cm rainfall each on the day.
Monsoon surge along the coastal Karnataka and Kerala is also likely to pick up over the next 48-72 hours.
