Kochi cops question Anjali Reema Dev for over three hours

KOCHI: Anjali Reema Dev, third accused in the Pocso case registered for sexual assault at No18 Hotel, appeared before the probe team for questioning on Wednesday afternoon. HC had granted her anticipatory bail even as it dismissed the bail pleas of first accused Roy Vayalat (hotel owner) and second accused Syju Thankachan.

She appeared before the special court considering cases related to atrocities against women and children in Kochi by 1pm and executed bail bonds as per HC directive. After completing formalities at the court, she appeared at the commissioner’s office around 2.45pm and was questioned for nearly 240 minutes.

Senior officers said she denied the charges against her. “At this point we cannot say that she is cooperating with the interrogation. All three accused are non-cooperative. We have asked Anjali to appear for questioning on Friday,” said a senior officer. Earlier in the day, addressing the media, she had said that the truth will come out soon. “I will cooperate with the investigators,” she said.

Earlier, Anjali had shared a video on social media in which she had claimed that her life was under threat and six persons were hell-bent on trapping her. “There are politicians, social workers, office-bearers of trusts and businessmen in this group. These strong persons are behind the allegations against me and the attempts to trap me,” she had said in a video shared on social media.

Meanwhile, the police custody period of both Vayalat and Thankachan ended on Wednesday. They were produced before a magistrate court and remanded in judicial custody. Kochi police had registered a case against them under various IPC sections, Juvenile Justice Act and the Pocso Act.
