Knowsley Expressway shut after multi vehicle crash as driver taken to hospital

A major Merseyside road was closed for more than an hour after a crash involving several vehicles.

One motorist has been taken to hospital after the accident which closed the Knowsley Expressway northbound close to the M62 at Tarbock Island.

Pictures from an ECHO reader show two crumpled cars at the scene of the crash which happened around 7.45am on Tuesday.

Travel monitors INRIX said the crash closed the road from A562 Speke Road to the M62 J6 (Tarbock Island) until 9.15am.

A North West Ambulance Service spokeswoman could not provide details of the severity of the injuries but confirmed a motorist was taken to Whiston Hospital after being treated at the scene for around 50 minutes.

And a Merseyside Police   spokesman confirmed that were made aware of an accident "involving a number of vehicles and one person has been taken to hospital".
