Knights tyro Pasami Saulo facing suspension

CHARGED: Pasami Saulo

NEWCASTLE'S forward depth looks set to take another hit with tyro Pasami Saulo facing a suspension after Sunday's 26-16 loss to Melbourne at Sunshine Coast Stadium.

Saulo was charged by the match-review committee on Monday for grade-three dangerous contact after a charge-down gone wrong on Storm halfback Jahrome Hughes.

After Hughes launched a clearing kick, Saulo arrived fractionally late and crashed into his lone grounded leg, before being sent to the sin-bin.

Hughes limped off soon afterwards for treatment.

If Saulo takes the early guilty plea, he will miss the next two games. If he opts to fight the charge and loses, he faces three weeks on the sidelines.

He is set to join fellow middle forwards Daniel Saifiti (knee) and Tim Glasby (concussion) on the unavailable list.

Knights hooker Chris Randall was also charged with grade-one dangerous contact after a 30th-minute incident involving Cameron Munster.

Randall can escape suspension with an early guilty plea, but he is in doubt for Saturday's home clash with Wests Tigers anyway after a head clash with teammate Lachlan Fitzgibbon that left both players concussed.

Randall and Fitzgibbon will need to pass concussion protocols this week to line up against the Tigers.

Newcastle's other injury concern is centre Bradman Best, who was having scans taken after suffering an ankle injury against the Storm.
