KOLKATA: Shreyas Iyer revealed that he loves to bat at No. 3, but the Kolkata Knight Riders' new skipper is ready to come out at any position according to the requirement of the side. "I have been batting at No. 3 for a very long time, but I am very flexible and is comfortable with any position my team requires me to bat at," Iyer said on Saturday.
The skipper felt there cannot be a specific role for a particular player in this T20 tournament. "The roles can change based on the conditions," he stated. "Basically it's the responsibility of all the players to go out there and win the matches and not rely on others to play some specific role," he added.
The middle-order batter gave the example of Venkatesh Iyer who opens the innings for KKR, but comes down the order for India. Iyer said although the team management has not decided on his batting position this season, he felt "Whatever chat I had with Venky while donning the India jersey, I found him to be ready for whatever role is assigned to him. We want such players," he said.
Talking about the brand of cricket his side is expected to play this season, Iyer called for intensity in approach. "I don't want to have any regrets when we get out of the field. Whatever you do you do it for the team and put yourself as secondary. That's the mindset I am looking for as a captain," he stated.
