Kirkcudbright's Garret hotel named Dumfries and Galloway's best licensed premises

A Kirkcudbright hotel has risen from the ashes to land a top award.

The Garret on the High Street has been named the best licensed premises in the region in this year’s Dumfries and Galloway Retail Business Awards.

The property suffered extensive fire damage when it was called the Gordon House Hotel, in April, 2016.

Local couple Andy and Audrey Kelly bought the severely damaged hotel in a bid to renovate it to its former glory, opening it under its new name in August last year.

Andy and Audrey had no previous hospitality experience but that didn’t stop them picking up the award in Dumfries.

They now go through to the national award finals in Glasgow in September.
