Kind hearted West Lothian fund raise for Marie Curie

A team of charity champs have raised over £9000 in just three months for cancer charity Marie Curie.

Lucerne Scotland Limited employees from its Livingston base at Alba Business Centre organised a treasure hunt with a difference to raise the cash, along with other events.

And their hard work paid off as the company was able to add to the £30,000 total it has donated to Marie Curie over the last three years.

Director Matt Hay said the treasure hunt took those taking part as fair as Orkney.

He explained: “We had three teams and 25 people in four vehicles that travelled to Caithness on August 31.

“After leaving at 6am we arrived in Thurso at 2pm having collected on several places on the way north.

“It was torrential rain and there were warnings of flooding in the area.

“The guys bravely erected their tents and we then sheltered in a local barn where we were fed some hot food but we had to abandon the first day of the treasure hunt.

“We were up early and travelled to the Gill’s Bay Ferry and crossed over to Orkney.

“The three teams spent the day travelling to Kirkwall, Stromness and Scara Brae.”

During their trip, they took part in various events which boosted their fundraising total.

And he said he is delighted by the success of the fundraising challenge.

Matt Hay added: “The teams carried out such tasks as paintings of Scara Brae and drawings of teams and were awarded charity money as a prize.

“It was a fantastically successful day.

“We returned back to camp on the last ferry and were up early on the second and back down south to Livingston.

“All three teams did a fantastic job over a period of three months and collected a fantastic sum of £9000.

“This is Lucerne Scotland Limited third charity run in three years and we have proudly collected just over £30,000.

“We are immensely proud of the teams that have taken part.”
