'Kind and loving' 20-year-old drummer dies after car collided with tree in Aberdare

A "wonderful son, brother, uncle and boyfriend" has died after the car he was travelling in careered off the road and collided with a tree .

Ryan James Hamer, 20, who was in the car with three other men, was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries after the collision on the A4059 between Aberdare and Mountain Ash in the early hours of Sunday, April 14.

South Wales Police has now confirmed Mr Hamer sadly died from his injuries.

His family paid a loving tribute to the keen musician and active young man.

They said: "Ryan - a wonderful son, brother, uncle and boyfriend. He loved music especially playing the drums in his band ‘Rapture’.

“He enjoyed going on snowboarding holidays with his friends when he wasn’t working as a swimming and gym instructor in his local leisure centre.

“Ryan was a kind, helpful and loving young man and he is going to be extremely missed by all who knew and love him.”

The family are being supported by specially trained officers at this difficult time.

A 22 year-old man remains at the University Hospital of Wales in what has been described as a critical condition.

Two other men, aged 19 and 22, were taken to Prince Charles Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

All four were travelling in a blue Toyota Yarris.

It is understood no other vehicle was involved.

An investigating into the incident is ongoing and officers are continuing their appeal for information about the collision which occurred at 00:05hrs on 14 April, 2019 between Mountain Ash and Aberdare.

Anybody who may have witnessed the collision or the manner in which the vehicle was travelling in the moments prior to the incident is urged to contact South Wales Police via 101 quoting reference *132567.
