Kim Basinger has now claimed her divorce from actor Alec Baldwin had been “heavy-duty” and the former couple didn’t always see eye to eye in a new interview.

The 68-year-old actress, who divorced Baldwin in 2002, also admitted the former couple faced “challenges” during their nine-year marriage.

Basinger was sitting alongside their daughter Ireland Baldwin, both of whom had joined Jada Pinkett-Smith for an episode of Red Table Talk this week.

During the show, Basinger detailed her past relationship with Baldwin and referred to their separation as “heavy-duty, very out loud when you’re in the public, divorce.”

She then claimed their relationship was sometimes fraught suggesting the actor wasn’t “emotionally or mentally available”.

Basinger added: “Alec’s a funny one, we’ve had our challenges and I don’t think Alec was emotionally or mentally available for that kind of talk.”

“Alec, you know, operates in a very different way in his life,” she continued.

The couple’s daughter also spoke about the way her dad deals with emotions. She said: “He deals with anxiety greatly, but he’s someone who grew up in a family that would suppress that as well, or tell him he’s weak for feeling that way.”

Kim and the couple’s daugher Ireland recently appeared on Red Table Talk (Red Table Talk/Facebook)

Basinger and Balwin first met in 1991 on the set of the film The Marrying Man.

The couple went on to wed in 1993 before welcoming their daughter two years later.

However, the A-list couple split in 2000 before going through a bitter divorce and custody battle for their daughter.

However, the Bond girl did reveal in a 2016 interview with The Edit that the former couple are “cool now”.

The Standard has reached out to Alec Baldwin’s representatives for further comment.

It comes after new footage emerged of Alec Baldwin practising drawing his revolver on the set of the Rust movie.

The footage was released by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s office in recent days.

In October 2021, Baldwin fatally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins with a prop gun during rehearsals on the set of the movie Rust.

The single bullet also wounded the film’s director Joel Souza, 48.

Baldwin is now facing several legal battles following the death of Hutchins.

Six months after the state launched an investigation into the fatal incident, Rust Movie Productions was fined $136,793 (£104,810).

New Mexico’s environment department concluded at the time there was “plain indifference to the recognised hazards” on set.
