Kilmarnock set for £5m Scottish Water project with 40 miles of pipes upgraded

Work on a £5 million project to upgrade 40 miles of pipework in Kilmarnock will begin on Thursday.

Scottish Water has confirmed today that the investment will help improve "resilience of supply" and reduce the chances of pipes bursting.

It's expected that the work, being carried out by partner Caledonia Water Alliance, throughout the town will take nine months to complete.

However, motorists look set to be disrupted at various points with a number of future road closures planned.

Caledonia Water Alliance customer manager Joanne Craig said: “This upgrade work to the water infrastructure in Kilmarnock will ensure Scottish Water customers in the area can continue to enjoy clear, fresh drinking water.

“It will also help reduce the chance of pipes bursting.

“We’d like to thank the local community in advance for their patience and understanding while this improvement work is undertaken.”

Work will start on Thursday in Kilmarnock's Glasgow Road and will progress on a rolling programme into the following areas:

The Foregate, Burns Avenue, Sandbed Street, Knockinlaw Road, Sandbed Lane, Waterlane, Kilmaurs Road, Argour Road, Hill Street, Rosebank Place, Balmoral Road, Corrie Crescent, Western Road, Morvan Close, Crathie Road, Ardbeg Avenue, Dean Street, Garrier Place, Bonnyton Road, Western Road, Morvan Avenue, Cairns Terrace, Dean Lane, Forest Grove, and Holly Place, before coming to an end on Balmoral Road.

Road closures will be put in place when work is being carried out in the following areas:

●Sandbed Street from Bank Street to St Marnock Street for approximately two weeks.

●Kilmaurs Road from the junction of A735 to Altonhill Farm for approximately three weeks.

●Waterlane from Sandbed Street to King Street for approximately two weeks.

The exact dates of these closures will be communicated in advance of them taking place.
