While many of us have been engrossed in crossword puzzles or going 'square-eyed' watching Netflix during the month of January, 16 members of a Kilmarnock gym have been clocking up the miles to raise money for a worthwhile charity.
The runners, all members of the Coach Personal Training Studio, based in the town's Bentinck Street, took on the challenge of Prostate Cancer UK's 'Run the Month' January fundraiser.
The suggestion to take part came from Coach member and Kilmarnock girl Jillian Houston, who had a close family member that had gone through treatment for the illness.
And so, Coach owner Kevin Smith and 15 members took up the 'marathon' challenge of running at least 26.2 miles throughout the month – whether it was a mile at a time or, in some cases, a complete marathon in the one go as three members did.
The fundraisers were out in all kinds of weather, with snow and ice hampering them on many of their sojourns.
But that didn't put them off, with the 16-strong team hitting their £1,000 target within the first week of January.
Now, collectively having ran over 1,500 miles between them, they have raised almost £6,000.
The money raised will be used to fund lifesaving research and support services for men and their families affected by prostate cancer – the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK.
