Killer who murdered Amber Gibson still 'on the loose' detectives confirm

Detectives are hunting for the killer who murdered teenager Amber Gibson in a Hamilton park.

The body of the 16-year-old was discovered near Cadzow Glen at around 10.10am on Sunday morning.

Amber had been reported missing from the Hamilton area and was last seen on Cadzow Street at around 9.55pm on Friday, November 26.

Police Scotland had previously described the murder as an isolated incident and said there was no risk to the wider public.

Detective Superintendent Raymond Brown, from Police Scotland Major Investigations Team West today confirmed officers could not say definitively there is no wider risk to the public and the killer remains on the loose, the Daily Record reports.

He said: "It is clear Amber has had an untimely death and at this stage we don't have anyone in custody for that so that person is on the loose.

"That is why we need the support of the community to provide us information that can help us a quickly as possible."

Amber's family have been left completely devastated by the tragedy.

Heartbreaking floral tributes have been left for the youngster at the park gates.

Detectives are now trying to piece together the teenager's last steps as they appealed with anyone within the community to come forward with information that might help the enquiry.

Chief Inspector Briony Daye, Local Area Commander, added: "We are appealing to people to come forward with anything they may have seen in this area and feed that into us.

"This shocking and distressing news, we are all human and need to come together now because that will help the investigation."

When asked what type of person Amber was Inspector Daye added: "We know Amber was a young girl and that is where we need to build a picture together and find out what tragically has happened to this young girl.

"Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones."

She added: "As a senior officer for this area I want to reassure you we have the officers out there in high visibility controls and are encouraging people to come forward."

It comes as locals were warned to prepare for an increased police presence while a murder investigation remains ongoing.

Amber, who also uses the surname Niven, left her home in the Hillhouse area of Hamilton at around 9.15pm on Friday, November 26.

Police could not confirm who Amber was living with at the property.
