Kilkenny crash: Tributes paid as victim of horror collision named locally as Lorraine Bolger

Tributes have been paid to the victim of Wednesday's horror crash in Kilkenny after she was named locally as Lorraine Bolger.

Three others were seriously injured following the head-on collision on the N25 at Gaulstown in Glenmore, Co Kilkenny at around 6.30 pm.

Lorraine, aged in her 40s, who was the driver of one of the cars, was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency services arrived.

Lorraine was a telecommunications and IT worker who was a member of a well-known family in south Wexford according to locals.

Cllr Michael Sheehan said it was an added tragedy for her family as her husband Séamus Ó Cualáin had passed away recently following an illness.

The couple's daughter Aisling, a secondary school student, was travelling with her mother at the time of the crash and is among the injured who were rushed to hospital on Wednesday night.

"It's a tragedy to the poor family yet again, they're already dealing with a bereavement," he told the Irish Mirror.

"All of our thoughts and prayers are with the two families involved in the accident and please God everyone in the community will rally around them, especially given the time of year that it is."

Cllr Bridín Murphy paid tribute to Ms Bolger and her family, who are well-regarded among GAA circles in the area.

"This is heartbreaking news in the lead up to Christmas and brings heartbreak to her family and loved ones. I also hope those injured make a full and speedy recovery."

Both paid thanks to emergency services who attended the scene following the collision to bring those with serious injuries to hospital.

Gardaí are asking any road users who were travelling on the N25 in Glenmore on Wednesday 1st December 2021 between 6:15 pm and 6:40 pm - who may have camera footage (including dashcam) - to come forward with any information.
