Kieron Dyer identifies the one Newcastle United player who will be safe if a takeover goes through

Former Newcastle United midfielder Kieron Dyer believes Allan Saint-Maximin is the only Magpies player who is 'safe' if the club's impending takeover is approved by the Premier League.

It has now been months since PCP Capital Partners' bid for the club reached the Premier League's owners' and directors' test stage.

The bid, spearheaded by financier Amanda Staveley and also involving the Reuben brothers, Simon and David, is backed by the mega-rich Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund and is awaiting the green light from Premier League chiefs.

With the eye-watering amounts of money Newcastle could have at their disposal, Dyer believes the new owners will have a 'right good go'.

Despite the core of the current group of players winning promotion from the Championship in 2017, and establishing themselves as a Premier League club again over the last three seasons, only one player would be 'safe' in Dyer's view.

That man is Saint-Maximin.

"If the takeover does happen and they are going to give it a right good go, he is probably the only player who you can say is safe," Dyer told the Friday Football Social on BBC Radio 5Live.

"That is testament to him and the season he has had."
