Kieran Tierney injury update as Arsenal reveal £25m signing’s return date is brought forward

Arsenal’s £25million signing Kieran Tierney is poised to make his debut for the Gunners quicker than expected.

The English Premier League side revealed earlier this month the left-back would return to full training in October.

Former Celtic star Tierney last played at the beginning of May in the 3-0 win at Aberdeen.

He had a double hernia operation at the end of last season that ruled him out of action.

But the 22-year-old’s recovery is ahead of schedule and Arsenal have announced he will now participate in full training in September.

In an injury update on the club’s official website, they said: "Groin. Continues to receive treatment and further assessments. Progressing well and aiming to participate in full training in September."

Tierney became Scottish football’s most expensive export when he signed for the North London club on August 8.

Despite his injury, the Scotland star still managed to beat the club’s record for jumping at set-pieces as he continued his rehab.

The mark previously held by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at 54cm was overtaken by Tierney as he leapt 55cm.

Should his recovery continue at pace, he could even make his Arsenal debut against Aston Villa at the Emirates on September 22 in the Premier League.
