Kieran Tierney 'couldn't help himself' as Arsenal star reveals he broke ranks to sink Faroes

All-action Kieran Tierney admits he broke ranks to inspire a morale-boosting Scotland victory over the Faroe Island.

Steve Clarke 's side stumbled to successive draws in their opening two clashes but course corrected for Qatar 2022 with a 4-0 triumph to climb to second in Group F.

John McGinn led the charge with two clinical finishes either side of the interval before Che Adams rattled home a first goal since pledging himself to the Tartan Army.

Ryan Fraser nodded home a fourth to apply some gloss to the scoreline and land a first three points on the board.

Tierney racked up three assists in an dynamic display and admits he couldn't help but bomb forward from centre-back despite risking a clip round the ear from his gaffer.

He said: "Good result, we needed that tonight, to win the game with a clean sheet as well.

"We've had to wait until the end of our camp, it's been a tough camp but probably a successful one.

"I was not bad. I just tried my best as always.

"I had a bit more time to go forward tonight and I enjoyed it.

"Everybody knows I like being high and wide putting crosses in. That's my game.

"Tonight I did a lot of that. It was good tonight (with Andy Robertson).

"I think the manager wanted me to sit a bit more but I couldn't help myself at times!

"It's the perfect end to the camp. The boys will be happy with that as there was a bit more confidence about us as well.

"It was a good way to end it."

Tierney set up Adams for a clinical third and the in-form Southampton man admitted his delight at getting off the mark in Dark Blue.

He helped ensure a morale-boosting victory in Scotland's last competitive clash before Euro 2020 kicks off in June.

Adams said: "It was a great feeling seeing it hit the back of the net and we got the three points.

I looked for Lyndon up top but it just fell for me, I had a shot and thankfully it went in.

"I've been in that position

"I think it's been a very positive week. We could've got more points on the board but it's just positivity now.

"The lads, we dug in well and got the three points today and that's all that matters.

"It's only positive, we're looking forward to the summer now to see what that brings."

McGinn's double pushed him into 10 international career goals and insists he knew the quality would come from Tierney and Co. if he hit the right areas.

The Aston Villa midfielder said: "We're lucky, as a country, to have so many good players in wide areas.

"The manager stressed tonight if I could just cheat in that wee half position and get into the box the quality would come.

"We've watched Kieran do it all season with Arsenal. People are sitting up and taking notice of him but we've known all along the quality he brings.

"He's put it on a plate for me with the first one and right on the napper with the second.

"The confidence was there, it was two difficult games to start.

"Some positives, some negatives but after tonight we sit second.

"None of these games are easy and results tonight prove so many of these teams are improving.

"It was about being professional, bringing our qualities to the pitch and tonight we definitely did that."
