Kieran Tierney and Aaron Hickey taken off as 'precaution' for Scotland

Steve Clarke offers positive injury update on Kieran Tierney and Aaron Hickey

STEVE CLARKE has offered a positive injury update on Kieran Tierney and Aaron Hickey after the win over Ireland.

Both full-backs were forced off with knocks in the comeback win in Nations League action at Hampden. Tierney went off in the first-half with a suspected head knock while Hickey looked to suffer cramp later in the match.

But Clarke has eased concerns over major injuries for the pair as he insisted they were taken off as a precaution.

"Both of them are okay," said Clarke when asked for an update on the full-back duo.

"We took Kieran off as a precaution. Aaron felt a tightness, so we took him off as a precaution.

"Like you say, we have good strength in depth, Tony Ralston and Greg Taylor come off the bench, both good players and both fitted in no problem.

"Which is why we do the work and why I try to have continuity in my selection, they know exactly what's required of them."

The injury blows come after David Turnbull and Nathan Patterson had to withdraw from the national team squad after the win over Ukraine in midweek.

Andy Robertson misses the entire camp with an injury picked up during club action with Jon McLaughlin, Grant Hanley and Jacob Brown all also withdrawing from the squad during the international break.

Commenting on the win over Ireland, when quizzed on the standout character and spirit in the squad, Clarke said: "I've been saying that about this group of players for a long, long time.

"They are desperate to do well for their country and they showed that again tonight."

"I'm delighted for the players and really proud of them."
