Kiefer Sutherland's favourite 'roll'? It's got to be Greggs, says Hollywood actor

He's had leading roles in big Hollywood movies but it seems that 24 action star Kiefer Sutherland's favourite 'roll' just has to be North East bakers Greggs.

The actor has been introduced to the Geordie favourite and clearly is a sucker for its savouries, as viewers of BBC 's The One Show have heard.

During an interview on Friday evening's episode of the magazine show, a photograph was shown of Sutherland smiling and holding up a Greggs gift card.

Asked if he still had it, The Lost Boys and Flatliners actor confessed he's now used up 'all' his cards - but had treated himself to a pastry just before coming on the show.

"Literally 20 minutes ago I had a Greggs sausage roll because I felt my sugars begin to go through the floorboards," he laughed, adding: " I'm still a great supporter of Greggs and the sausage roll."

Sutherland, who is best known for his long-running TV role as anti-terrorism agent Jack Bauer in hit US series 24, will find himself pretty much surrounded by the popular product when he arrives on Greggs' home turf this summer for an eagerly-awaited appearance at the annual Americana festival.

Fans will have a chance to see the music side of the actor, who now has a second album under his belt, when he closes the SummerTyne Americana festival at Sage Gateshead on July 21.

Asked on The One Show about the bakery chain's also-popular steak bake, he answered: "I'm a sausage roll guy."

But he told the programme that rest of his band are indeed divided between being steak bake and chicken bake fans.

"The chant on the plane is that the band can't wait to get to Greggs."
