Kibou opening in Bristol - first look at award-winning chain's stunning new restaurant

A new Japanese restaurant is opening in Bristol next week and Bristol Live has had an exclusive ‘first look’ around.

We were invited for a sneak peek at the new restaurant and bar in Clifton, headed up by an award-winning chain.

This is the third site for Kibou, which also has restaurants in London and Cheltenham.

The Clifton restaurant has taken over the former pub Nettle & Rye in King’s Road, just off Boyces Avenue in Clifton Village.

With its floral frontage, neon signage and striking interior design, it’s sure to become an instant hit with Bristol’s social media influencers.

Designed with a vision to transport guests to the eclectic streets of Tokyo, Kibou features colourful frieze panel murals and projector animations depicting iconic Japanese life and street scenes.

Set across two floors, with additional outside terrace seating, the 80-cover bar and restaurant has a range of intimate dining areas, a spacious lounge, standalone marble decked bar, and open sushi kitchen with high top seating.

The décor has a range of natural stone, wood and marble finishes against a backdrop of traditional Japanese block print fabrics, neon signage and dramatic lighting.

As with other Kibou sites, Japanese foliage plays an important role throughout the venue, with a network of iconic burgundy Japanese acers created by London event florist Warren Bushaway.

The menu at will centre on signature sushi rolls, such as Volcano Roll (salmon, avocado and tobiko futomaki, tempura fried and served with Kibou’s house sauce), alongside a range of classic and contemporary Japanese dishes.

There will be steaming bowls of ramen made with pork, chicken or vegan broth, freshly prepared katsu curry, crisp softshell crab tempura and a selection of steamed bao buns and gyozas with a variety of fillings.

The standalone bar will serve a large selection of Japanese whisky and sake along with Japanese brewed beers, authentic high-balls and signature Japanese-inspired cocktails.

Kibou opens to the public on Monday, October 4.
