Khatima SDM's car hit by tractor ferrying sand illegally

RUDRAPUR: Khatima sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Ravindra Bisht had a narrow escape when a tractor involved in illegal mining allegedly tried to run over the official's vehicle when he was out on a routine checking on Sunday morning. The tractor driver managed to flee leaving behind his vehicle. Bisht was out to check illegal mining on Khatima-Pilibhit road when he noticed a tractor-trolley laden with sand coming from Jamaur-Khudaganj crossroad towards Khatima.

When SDM's vehicle started chasing, the tractor hit the official's car with its rear end, damaging the front side of the official's car. However, Bisht, his driver and one support staff remained unscathed.

Bisht said, "A complaint has been filed against an unknown person. The crackdown against illegal miners will continue." Station house officer (SHO), Khatima, Naresh Chauhan said no case has been registered so far in the incident. "We are probing the matter. The details of the vehicle owner will be ascertained from the regional transport office," he said.
