Khaldoon Al Mubarak addresses Pep Guardiola future at Man City beyond 2021

Khaldoon Al Mubarak is "very comfortable" with the managerial situation at Manchester City as Pep Guardiola approaches the final ten months of his contract.

City were delighted to lure the Catalan coach from Bayern Munich in 2016, having previously tried to bring him to the Etihad after he left Barcelona. And they were thrilled when he signed a contract extension after leading the team to a record-breaking Premier League title, signing on until 2021 to make this the longest job of his managerial career.

Despite a disappointing campaign that saw the Blues fail to win a third consecutive league and also suffer a Champions League quarter-final exit at the hands of Lyon, Guardiola still maintains the confidence of the club's hierarchy who would like to keep him for as long as they can. However, the manager has not publicly expressed a desire either way and uncertainty lingers around one of the biggest City issues.

Khaldoon Al Mubarak, City chairman, addressed the matter in his annual end-of-season address where he told club media that everything will work out in the best way for everyone while not committing on whether there would be a contract extension or not.

"We have such an understanding me and Pep, the ecosystem we have between Txiki [Begiristain], Ferran [Soriano], the entire club, that this conversation with Pep is a natural conversation," he said.

"Pep and I have a very clear understanding about what is right for the club and what is not. We have a clear alignment in terms of where we see the future and what we want in terms of success for the club. I think again, it will be a comfortable conversation and it will work out in the best way for Pep, for me and for the club. I’m very comfortable about that."

Pressed on if there had been specific talks about a new contract or if any were planned, he responded: "Everything will work out naturally and in the right way. We have the right people involved. We have the right trust in each other and what’s best will happen."
