Key worker has bike snatched from outside Edinburgh surgery by 'nasty' thieves

A critical worker has lashed out at "nasty" thieves who snatched her bike in broad daylight while she was on shift in the Currie area.

Kim Collier's work as a vet nurse is deemed essential by the UK Government, as she helps to provide emergency care for pets in need amid lockdown.

However, this didn't stop callous thieves from stealing her bike which was chained to the railings outside Pentland Veterinary Clinic, on Riccarton Mains Road, sometime between 11am and 6pm on Monday (27 April).

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, the 37-year-old explains that she cycles 12 miles into work and has been using her bike to avoid getting on public transport during the outbreak.

Kim says she would have been left stranded on Monday night were it not for a colleague and has been left furious over the damage the culprits have caused to the fence outside the surgery.

She said: "I have to come to work. Why target someone who has to work?

"It just hit us a little bit harder. Why are you outside in the first place and who would steal a bike in broad daylight?

"People really need to be kind right now but some people just aren't."

Pentland Veterinary Clinic said: "We're shocked and upset to say someone has stolen our nurse, Kim's bike from outside the surgery today.

"This bike meant a lot to her. Please share far and wide to see if anyone tries to sell it. Kim has contacted the police. If anyone saw anything then please get in touch. It is covered in race number stickers and didn't have the mud guards shown in photos."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers were called to a report of a bike stolen from outside a premises in Riccarton Mains Road, between 11am and 5.55pm yesterday, Monday, 27 April.

"Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact police via 101, quoting reference number 2810 of 27 April."
