Kevin van Veen sees Chinese transfer bid booted OUT by Motherwell as six figure offer not enough for Fir Park chiefs

Motherwell have turned down a significant six-figure offer for red-hot striker Kevin van Veen.

Chinese side Changchun Yatai made a bid to land the 24-goal striker earlier this month. The Super League club made direct contact but Motherwell made it clear they didn’t want to sell their prize asset.

Changchun Yatai tabled a sizeable offer but it wasn’t enough to persuade Well chiefs to do business before the Chinese transfer window closed. The Well board and manager Stuart Kettlewell wanted to keep their top scorer, especially as they are still looking for the points to safeguard their Premiership status for another season. Van Veen was made aware of the interest and could have pocketed a big increase in wages but was happy to remain and see out the season at Fir Park.

The interest certainly hasn’t derailed his form. The 31-year-old has nine goals in his last six games, including the weekend strike at Celtic that earned Motherwell a point.

Van Veen has come to the fore since Kettlewell came in as boss and has been a major factor in Well climbing to the relative safety of mid-table. Van Veen, who was signed from Scunthorpe in 2021, will go into the final year of his Fir Park contract next season.
