Kevin Smith’s Yoga Hosers, which features Johnny Depp alongside his daughter Lily-Rose, is among the films selected for the Sundance film festival’s influential horror-oriented Midnight section.
Sundance will see the world premiere of Yoga Hosers, which is about yoga-loving high-schoolers from Winnipeg who, as the film’s synopsis describes it, “get invited to a senior party by the school hottie [and] … accidentally uncover an ancient evil buried beneath their Canadian convenience store”. Yoga Hosers is also described as a spin-off from Smith’s last film, Tusk, in which Johnny and Lily-Rose Depp appeared as apparently the same characters: veteran detective Guy Lapointe and convenience store clerk Colleen Collette respectively.
Also prominent in the Midnight lineup is 31, from director Rob Zombie, in which five friends are kidnapped and must play a game called 31 to survive, and Under the Shadow, an Iran-set horror movie about a mysterious evil presence seemingly awakened by the country’s bloody revolution and war with Iraq.
- The Sundance film festival runs from 21-31 January in Park City, Utah.
