Kevin Keegan: England and Liverpool legend dies aged 75

  • Kevin Keegan , the former England footballer and manager, has died at the age of 75, having been diagnosed with stage four cancer in January.
  • As a player, Keegan achieved significant success with Liverpool , securing three First Division titles, an FA Cup, a European Cup and two Uefa Cups, before winning two Bundesliga titles with Hamburg.
  • A two-time Ballon d’Or winner in 1978 and 1979, he earned 63 caps for England, scoring 21 goals and captaining the national team on 31 occasions.
  • Keegan is widely celebrated for his managerial period at Newcastle United , where he guided the club from the second tier to the Premier League and achieved their best-ever second-place finish.
  • His managerial career also included a 20-month spell as England manager and a brief return to Newcastle in 2008, which concluded due to a public dispute with the club's board.
