Kerry can topple Dublin's drive for five says Aidan O'Mahony

Aidan O'Mahony believes Kerry can topple Dublin’s five-in-a-row bid.

The Kingdom’s four-time All-Ireland winner reckons Peter Keane’s new-look side carry none of the baggage that goes with losing four Championship ties to Jim Gavin’s side since 2011 and the recent League final loss to Mayo could be a blessing in disguise.

“I think they can,” he said when asked if Kerry can turn the tables on the Dubs. “I genuinely think they can.

“Hopefully the media will keep building them [Dublin] up every week and build them up for a bit of a fall.

“They are the team to beat but I definitely think Kerry can catch them. Once we get ourselves right at the back, and we need to give youth its fling as well.

“A lot of these lads that have come through this year for Kerry haven’t been beaten by Dublin. They’ve lost a League final to Mayo, which might be a good thing as well,” added O’Mahony, who was unveiled as a Paddy Power ambassador yesterday.

Dublin could become the first team in GAA history to win five senior All-Irelands in succession, something Kerry narrowly missed out on twice in the past.

“Would it hurt? It’ll hurt alright I suppose but on the other side of it, it is a massive achievement, you’d take your hat off to them.

“They have the calibre of player at the moment that can win five-in-a-row.

“Teams have to believe, especially the top four or five, that they can beat them. I think they can.

“Throw the shackles off, have a go at them. ‘They are going for five in a row, what will you be remembered for?’ That’s what lads will be telling teams.”
