Kerala records 2,846 new Covid cases, TPR at 7.02%

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state reported 2,846 Covid cases of the 40,523 samples tested in the last 24 hours on Tuesday. The test positivity rate has become 7.02%.

With 40 more deaths in the past few days being recorded as Covid deaths and 128 deaths added from the appeals received, the total death toll has become 65,501. The total active cases are 24,912, of which 7.8% people are admitted either in hospitals or in other treatment centres. Also, 4,325 patients have recovered from the infection.

Of the new Covid cases, 2,696 people got infected through local contacts and the source of 115 cases is not known. Among those who arrived from outside the state 8 people tested positive, and 27 healthcare workers too tested positive.

Thiruvananthapuram has 486, the highest number of cases, followed by Ernakulam (436), Kottayam (314), Kollam (249), Thrissur (232), Kozhikode (198), Pathanamthitta (189), Idukki (157), Malappuram (115), Palakkad (114), Kannur (113), Alappuzha (111), Wayanad (112) and Kasaragod (20).

There are a total of 93,948 persons presently under observation in various districts, of which 92,065 are at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 1,883 are in isolation at hospitals.
