KOCHI: Malli, the mother of Attapadi tribal youth Madhu, who was lynched by a mob on February 22, 2018, in Attapadi, has filed a writ petition in the Mannarkkad Special Court for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Atrocities Act on Friday seeking the removal of special prosecutor C Rajendran from the case.
In the petition, Malli told the court that the family was not satisfied with the special prosecutor’s performance. Instead, they requested to appoint additional prosecutor Rajesh M Menon to appear in the case.
When the court said the removal of the prosecutor from appearing in the case is vested with the government, Malli again filed a writ petition requesting to postpone the trial. The court will hear the case again on June 14.
Malli’s move comes after two witnesses, including her relative, turned hostile. Malli and Madhu’s sister Sarasu had raised allegations, saying that the government was not serious about bringing the culprits to justice.
Earlier, prosecutors had withdrawn from the case due to non-recipient of fees. Malli and Sarasu had raised suspicion that the accused were trying to influence witnesses.
