Kerala logs 7,780 Covid cases; TPR at 12.31%

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state has reported 7,780 cases from 63,192 samples tested in the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate is at 12.31%.

With 61 more deaths in the past few days being recorded as Covid deaths and 130 deaths added from appeals received, the death toll has climbed to 63,529.

The total active cases are 85,875, of which 5% of people are admitted either in hospitals or other treatment centres. At the same time, 21,134 patients have recovered from the disease.

Of the new cases, 7,124 got infected through local contacts and source of infection for 537 is unknown. Among the people who had come from outside the state, 69 tested positive and 50 healthcare workers also tested positive.

Ernakulam reported the highest number of cases - 1,403, followed by Thiruvananthapuram (858), Kozhikode (746), Thrissur (692), Kottayam (661), Kollam (604), Alappuzha (486), Malappuram (444), Idukki (434), Pathanamthitta (386), Palakkad (363), Wayanad (324), Kannur (282) and Kasaragod (97).

The district-wise breakup of patients who tested negative is as follows - Kollam (3,378), Ernakulam (2,932), Thiruvananthapuram (2,789), Kottayam (1,915), Thrissur (1,631), Malappuram (1,343), Pathanamthitta (1,312), Kozhikode (1,245), Idukki (1,243), Alappuzha (1,013), Palakkad (837), Wayanad (639), Kannur (633) and Kasaragod (224).
