Kerala is a State that has survived the crises caused by natural disasters, standing together and setting an example, Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development J. Chinchu Rani has said.
She was inaugurating a training programme on Sunday for the captains of local self-governing bodies in the district as part of the expansion of the volunteer force formed by Kerala State Youth Welfare Board.
"During the floods, the fishers participated in rescue operations endangering their own lives. Along with them, the youth also took part in rescue and relief activities. Following this, it was decided to equip the young generation to face this situations," said the Minister.
The training of the volunteers is organised in two batches with the objective of utilising the potential of the youth in disaster management and other social activities.
While P.C. Vishnunath, MLA, presided over the function, State Youth Commission chairperson Chintha Jerome was the chief guest. District Youth Coordinator S. Shabeer, Youth Welfare Board member Santosh Kala, district panchayat member Selvi, Thrikkovilvattam grama panchayat vice president R. Satish Kumar, and grama panchayat member S. Sivakumar, were also present on the occasion.
The training programme will end on February 22.
