Kendall Jenner has spoken out to deny persistent online rumours that she’s gay, admitting she would’ve come out publicly by now if that were the case.
Speaking on Owen Thiele’s podcast In Your Dreams, Jenner said she’s aware of the “whole side of the internet that thinks I’m a lesbian”, insisting she is not part of the queer community but would have “no problems” aligning with it if she was.
“I understand that coming out is not an easy thing for anybody, [but] I can speak for myself here and knowing myself, I think at this point in my life, I’d be out if I was,” Jenner said.
“Knowing how I would want to live my life, I’d have no problem being that,” she added.
Jenner went on to say that the years-long speculation about her sexuality online has sometimes veered towards accusatory and “mean” rather than tolerant and “welcoming”.
“What really bothers me is how mean people are about it. It’s not with a welcoming arm, like, ‘Hey, if you were, yes, come join!’ It’s not kind. It’s very mean. It’s very, ‘What the fuck are you doing?’” Jenner said.
The model described the internet theories about why she has supposedly remained closeted — including that coming out would be “bad for business” — as “fucked up”, before reiterating she is not gay but hasn’t ruled out the potential.
“All’s to say, as of today, I am not [gay]. I don’t think I will be, but I’m not closing doors to experiences in life,” Jenner said.
Jenner’s admission came within a broader chat about her dating life, with the model and reality star revealing she’s currently single and not dating “a lot” after being in a string of high-profile relationships in her 20s.
“When I turned 29, I was like, I really want to put myself first right now, and so that’s where I’m at,” she said.
Jenner has been romantically linked to stars like NBA player Devin Booker and musicians Bad Bunny and Harry Styles in the past, but she is notably more private about her dating life than her famous sisters.
Looks like we won’t be hearing much about Jenner’s romances in the future, but don’t expect her to step out with a woman anytime soon, no matter how hard you ship her with one.
