Keith Long admits Shamrock Rovers 'in the driving seat' in title race after Dublin Derby win

Bohs boss Keith Long insisted his team deserved a second half penalty in yesterday's Dublin derby but admitted Shamrock Rovers are now "in the driving seat" in the title race.

His Rovers counterpart Stephen Bradley saw nothing wrong in Liam Scales' 64th minute challenge on Danny Grant in the Hoops box.

However ref Derek Twomey had booked Scales' defensive colleague Lee Grant for a similar looking bodycheck in the first half, while Bohs defender James Finnerty also picked up a yellow for a more blatant example.

“It’s a penalty, a penalty all day long," claimed Long. "There was probably one in the first half too.

"It’s clear that it’s a bodycheck in the box and it’s a penalty.

"But that’s football. We didn’t get the decision, we’ve had the slice of luck in other games and it didn’t go for us today."

Long and his players had been clear in the run-up to the Tallaght clash that they weren't thinking about the title race, although victory would have put them on top.

“There’s lots of football to be played," said Long, whose side now trail by five points. "Obviously Rovers are in the driving seat now.

"It doesn't really affect us hugely. It would have been great to come here and win or get a result, we haven’t really been in the equation up until we beat Dundalk.

"So we’ll have reset, we’ll have to get ready for next week, we’ve a tough game against Waterford and we’ve got to make sure we’re ready for that and bounce back."

Bohs have been scheduled to play on a number of Friday evenings in the run-in, which makes it tough for the squad's part-timers.

“We play Finn Harps at home at 5.45, Derry at home at 5.45," said Long. "Yeah, it will have an affect, people will have to finish earlier but that’s something we have no control over".
