Keith Duffy pays touching tribute to daughter after winning charity golf tournament

Former Boyzone star Keith Duffy has said it felt "amazing" to win his first ever golf tournament - netting a big prize for charity in the process.

As part of the EU Legends Tour Celebrity Series grand final, Keith beat competition from the likes of Robbie Fowler, Jim Gavin, Gordon Strachan and Dan Walker to take the top prize with a score of 35 in the stableford format.

Keith was aided around the Constance Belle Mare Plage course in the Indian Ocean by pro Clark Dennis.

He told reporters on the Legends Tour: "I don’t actually know how to feel to be honest, I’ve always been very, very close but I have never won anything, so I suppose I am trying to calm myself to talk to you."

The prize also included a massive £25,000 (€29,500) for Keith's chosen charity - ASIAM.ie which helps provide the support needed for children who have autism.

Speaking after the win, Keith said: “There is a competition going on but at the end of the day everyone is supporting a charity that they are very passionate about, and I am certainly here supporting a charity that I am very passionate about and have been for 20 years and that’s trying to provide the appropriate intervention and education for children with autism and children on the autism spectrum.

"I have a beautiful daughter that is on the spectrum, and we have been working very hard since she was two, she’s now 22 and she’s doing wonderfully well and I am very, very proud of her.

"I am going to use this platform now of winning this competition to try and make more awareness and just try and get people to understand a little bit about autism and if everyone in the world just understood a little bit about autism it would make the world a much better place.”
