Keir Starmer tests positive for Covid on Budget day and isolates for fifth time

Keir Starmer has tested positive for Covid-19 - forcing him into his fifth bout of self-isolation on Budget day.

The Labour leader was missing at Prime Minister's Questions today and was replaced by Shadow Business Secretary Ed Miliband.

"Just like the old days," joked former leader Mr Miliband.

Sir Keir has previously isolated four times. Labour sources confirmed this time he had tested positive for Covid himself.

It's understood the Labour leader is feeling fine. He was taking daily lateral flow tests and today’s came back positive.

Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves had to step in at the last moment to respond to the Budget instead of Sir Keir.

The Labour leader had just finished PMQs when he was notified that he would need to isolate the fourth time in July.

He said previously: "I know it's my responsibility to follow the rules."
