Katie Taylor reveals how Roy Keane helped her when she was at her lowest point

Katie Taylor has revealed how Roy Keane helped her when she was at the lowest point of her career.

The Bray boxer was gutted after losing at the 2016 Olympics in Rio - four years after winning a gold medal at the London games.

But legendary Irish footballer Keane took the time to ring the now undisputed world lightweight champion and Taylor admits it meant a lot.

She told The Daily Mail: "When I lost in the Rio Olympics, the first phone call I got was actually from Roy Keane. He said, 'Keep your head up'. He was very, very positive and that really does make my heart so happy."

She added: "He went out of his way and it meant so much to me that one of my heroes, someone who I really looked up to as a child, gave me a call at the lowest point of my career."

Taylor previously represented the Republic of Ireland football team at senior level.

She recently unified the lightweight division when beating Delfine Persoon at Madison Square Garden on June 1.
