Katie Taylor lining up first all-female main event at Madison Square Garden against Amanda Serrano

Katie Taylor's first assignment of 2020 could be the first all-female main event at Madison Square Garden against Amanda Serrano.

The fight, likely in April, would see the Bray boxer take on one of the fiercest competitors in the sport in Serrano who has collected more titles in weight divisions – seven - than any other female in boxing history.

It is a showdown that has been talked about ever since Taylor defeated Amanda's older sister Cindy in convincing fashion in October 2018.

Taylor's promoter Eddie Hearn said: "My aim for Katie Taylor is for her to become one of the biggest stars in sport. Forget female or male, just a star of the sport, to give her the credibility, and get her the money that would be ground-breaking in the sport and (an amount) I want her to walk away with.

"I think Serrano has to be next and I think it will be. I think that should come in April and that should come in New York. I think that could be the first all-female main event to headline at the Garden."

Brian Peters, Taylor's manager, said earlier this month that they were hoping to stage three massive fights in the new year - a rematch with Defline Persoon and showdowns with Serranon and Cecilia Braekhus.

And Hearn echoed those hopes, although a rematch with Persoon could be off the table for the time being owing to the Belgian's intention to compete at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Hearn said: Even if you get two of the three. Persoon is going to the Olympics which is a bit of a 'gutter’, let her do her thing. First thing first, let’s lock in this Serrano fight. Everybody seems to want the fight. I think Amanda is doing an MMA fight in January. Let her do that and let’s make this fight in April. It’s a wonderful fight."

"I take Katie’s career very seriously. I’m incredibly emotionally invested in her career because I feel like everything is a challenge with what we are doing. I’m very motivated to deliver for her."
