Katie Price: From £45m glamour model to bankrupt mum

Most people know who Katie Price is, having been in the public eye for more than two decades.

The mum-of-five carved her path over the years and became a multi-millionaire, however in recent years the former glamour model has faced bankruptcy. Katie began her career with a London-based modelling agency in 1996.

At the age of 19, she underwent the first in a succession of breast enhancement surgeries, going from a 32B to a 32FF. It was during the mid-nineties where the 44-year-old really came into the spotlight appearing on red carpets as 'Jordan' in daring outfits, winning fans but also becoming tabloid fodder - and seen by some as fair game for criticism.

During her party years she met footballer Dwight Yorke and the couple had a child together. Harvey was born in 2002, with septo-optic dysplasia, Prader-Willi syndrome, autism, visual impairment and a learning disability.

Katie has spoken openly about the difficulties looking after Harvey, advocated for her son and others with disabilities and has called out trolls who have attacked her son online. Continuing her modelling career, she appeared in FHM, Vogue and the UK and US version of Playboy magazine before she agreed to take part in the 2004 edition of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!.

It was on this show that she met her first husband Peter Andre who is also father to her second son Junior, born in 2005, and daughter Princess, born in 2007. It was after the birth of her daughter that she travelled to the US for a breast reduction and a 'nose job', but was unhappy with the results and underwent more surgery in 2008.

Peter, 46, and Katie co-hosted the short-lived late-night chat show Katie & Peter: Unleashed in 2007 and starred in several reality TV programmes together (Katie & Peter: The Next Chapter, Katie & Peter: The Baby Diaries, Katie & Peter: Down Under and Katie & Peter: African Adventures, and many more), before calling time on their relationship in 2009.

Katie has diversified herself, making money from other avenues, such as failed music career where she sang 'A Whole New World' with husband Peter Andre, and was a 2005 Eurovision Song Contest hopeful. Her bestselling books, including her autobiographies 'Being Jordan' (2004) and 'A Whole New World' (2006) also contributed to her fortune.

And she has also penned a number of novels, Crystal, Angel Uncovered, Sapphire and Paradise, and a series of children's books entitled Katie Price's Perfect Ponies. Trying to move more into fashion and beauty, Katie's perfume 'Stunning' came out in 2007 and her KP Equestrian range was also launched in 2007.

Following these ventures, Katie married her second husband MMA fighter Alex Reid in 2010 but separated a year later. She then married husband number three, Kieran Hayler in the Bahamas in 2013 and went on to have two children together, Jett in 2013 and Bunny in 2014.

Since then, Katie's world had started to spiral, narrowly avoiding bankruptcy in 2018, agreeing to pay off her debts, Katie admitted the stress had driven her to cocaine misuse and was treated at The Priory. Things got worse for the mum-of-five in 2019 when she was given a three-month driving ban in January after breaching conditions of a previous ban for speeding.

The troubled star was also stopped in February 2019 and found to be twice over the alcohol limit, adding another three months to her ban. Continuing to struggle to pay her debts, Katie was declared bankrupt on Tuesday, November 26, 2019.

She didn't bother turning up in person - nor did she send a lawyer to fight her corner. JMW Solicitors, who represented the insolvency practitioner overseeing Price's IVA, said: "She hasn't acknowledged the petition."

She had submitted a payment plan in the form of an Individual Voluntary Agreement late last year to manage repayments of an estimated £250,000 of debt. But Katie was unable to meet her creditors' demands and couldn't pay back the six-figure amount in time.

She was supposed to be paying off £12,000 a month to her various creditors. But Katie failed to satisfy the terms of her debt plan and in September 2019 a bankruptcy charge was laid on her West Sussex mansion. Now in 2022, Katie is engaged to Love Island star Carl Woods.

The mum-of-five is also facing more trouble due in court on June 24 after pleading guilty to breaching a restraining order against her ex-husband Kieran Hayler’s fiancee Michelle Penticost. Judge Stephen Mooney, who addressed the Mucky Mansions star and her counsel following the plea, warned Katie she was "at risk of going to prison".

Katie's £3.2million bankruptcy hearing was also vacated this week and it is not known when it will go ahead.
