For the first time since having their heart broken by JoJo Siwa, Aussie darling Kath Ebbs has given their first interview. And buckle up, because it’s raw, vulnerable and a little bit heartbreaking.
Unlike most breakups, Kath and JoJo’s was on a whole other level. You see, JoJo was a contestant on Celebrity Big Brother UK, and the world watched on as the Dance Moms star became close with Love Island‘s Chris Hughes. On screen, it was clear their relationship was close, and while they have repeatedly denied that their relationship took a romantic turn, viewers couldn’t look away knowing that JoJo had a partner on the outside.
While Kath wasn’t on television, much of the conversation revolved around them and how they were feeling as JoJo seemingly got closer and closer to Chris. Eventually, in a heartfelt and now-deleted TikTok video, Kath revealed that JoJo broke up with them at the Big Brother afterparty.

Now, in a raw and vulnerable interview with Betches, Kath has spoken publicly about what it was like watching their partner on screen — and being broken up with — on a worldwide scale.
How did Kath feel about the worldwide attention?
As pointed out by Kath’s friend and fellow media personality Abbie Chatfield, I don’t think anyone could be prepared for the amount of eyeballs and attention the hugely public situation resulted in. Naturally, Kath admits it was very overwhelming.
“There have been so many times in the past month when I’ve thought about disappearing when this all feels way too overwhelming,” Kath shared.
“The person who used to be my support system has not only vanished but turned against me and allowed this behaviour to continue towards me. Everyone’s talking about me, but not to me.
“I feel voiceless, and that’s a really big trigger for me because of things that I’ve grown up with. People are calling me names. People are making assumptions about my character. And when you’re in it, it feels like it’s never going to go away.”
How did Kath feel about the conversation happening online?
The discourse surrounding the debacle was a bit of a doozy. A big chunk of Celebrity Big Brother UK viewers were hoping Chris and JoJo would eventually get together. Meanwhile, others had their eyes glued to Kath’s TikTok, waiting for them to make a statement about what they felt about JoJo’s burgeoning relationship with Chris.
For Kath, the conversation around their relationship was a sign that people didn’t take sapphic relationships seriously.
“I don’t know, I could be wrong, but my reflection for people is it because that person was in a sapphic relationship that you don’t see it having the same validity as a heterosexual straight couple,” they said.
“I’m telling you right now, if Chris Hughes had a girlfriend or if he was even just casually seeing someone on the outside and was acting like that, I don’t know what kind of conversation we would be having. I believe there is a small percentage of the conversation that is influenced by people’s either unconscious or conscious homophobia.
“People are constantly trying to diminish our experiences and our identity and the validity of our relationships.”

Does Kath think JoJo cheated?
During the chat with Betches, Kath confirmed that they don’t believe that JoJo actually cheated on them with Chris. However, that doesn’t mean the way JoJo acted in the house was fine.
“I think my boundaries were crossed in a way that felt like a betrayal of trust repeatedly around affection,” Kath explained.
“I believe she made a lapse in judgment, and I was obviously collateral in that, and I wish that didn’t happen because it was incredibly hurtful. But I do not believe that she had malicious intent in that interaction.”
What did Kath think of watching JoJo’s relationship with Chris blossom on screen?
Kath first thought JoJo’s close bond with Chris was a result of her diabolical run-in with Mickey Rourke.
“I genuinely just thought that because of the Mickey Rourke thing, she had kind of trauma bonded a bit to Chris as he was the only one that stood up for her and didn’t gaslight her,” Kath admits.
“So I thought that was a trauma bond that had kind of gone too far because of the environment in which they were in.”

Why did Kath delete their TikTok about the breakup?
When I first saw Kath’s emotional TikTok video talking about their breakup with JoJo, my heart lurched for them. However, hours later, they deleted it.
“She promised me that if I deleted the TikTok video, she would no longer talk about me. And she didn’t hold up that promise,” Kath explained.

Since their breakup, JoJo has spoken publicly about them multiple times, claiming that Kath “cussed her out” and implying that a close friend of Kath’s did something “pretty bad” to them while she was in the house.
“I feel a bit like I’ve been this pawn that’s been moved around in this story by Big Brother, by JoJo, by her PR team, by the tabloids, and I feel really beaten around by that because it’s just not something I asked for,” Kath shared.
“And I think at the end of the day, the boring headline is: ‘I’m just heartbroken, and I’ve just gone through a really messy breakup that I didn’t see coming, and I’m in shock, and I’m picking up the pieces of my love life and of my life in that’.”
What now for Kath Ebbs?
Before Kath’s relationship with JoJo crumbled on the world stage, they’d just launched a podcast called I’ve Always Said That with friend and immaculate fashion creator Carmen Azzopardi. On the pod, they discuss all sorts of conversation topics from work to romance and politics with nuance, consideration and humour.
I reckon we should go give it a listen.
