Kate's bridesmaid dress demand sparked by Charlotte's tears made Meghan cry, claims Harry

The Princess of Wales wanted Princess Charlotte's bridesmaid's dress for Prince Harry 's wedding remade and Meghan Markle was left in tears - the Duke's new memoir reportedly claims.

It has long been reported that Kate and Meghan had a disagreement regarding Princess Charlotte's bridesmaid dress for the 2018 celebrations. Previous reports suggested Meghan made a heavily pregnant Kate cry, while Meghan used her Oprah Winfrey interview to claim the opposite happened.

And it appears that for the first time, Harry has opened up about what happened in his new memoir, Spare. The book isn't out until next week, however an extract seen by Page Six details Harry's account of the now infamous row.

He writes that the row took place a week before his nuptials at St George's Chapel in Windsor. The memoir states that the small dresses were hand-sewn based on measurements and it made sense that some would need tweaks.

According to Page Six, Kate messaged Meghan to tell her Charlotte's dress was "too big, long and baggy" and that the youngster "burst into tears when she tried it on".

The book reportedly claims that Kate was told to bring Charlotte and the dress to a tailor but the then Duchess of Cambridge said that the dress needed to be remade, with her wedding dress designer agreeing with this.

However, it is reportedly later claimed that Kate did take Charlotte to the tailor, with Harry writing he later found wife-to-be Meghan in tears following this. However, he is said to add that Kate later apologised and gave Meghan flowers and a card.

Almost two years ago in Meghan and Harry's bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview, the incident regarding the dresses was also covered.

There had been claims from insiders that the two women disagreed about a detail of the outfits, leaving Kate, who was pregnant with Prince Louis at the time, in tears.

But in her historical interview, Meghan claimed it was actually the other way around.

She said that "the narrative" surround the incident "was really, really difficult" and it was "when everything changed".

Meghan stressed that she hasn't told the story to "disparage anyone", but said she wouldn't have wanted the story to come out had it been the other way around.

She explained: "It was a really hard week of the wedding, and she was upset about something, but she owned it, and she apologised, and she brought me flowers and a note apologising and she did what I would do if I knew that I hurt someone. To just take accountability for it.

"What was hard to get over was being blamed for something that not only I didn’t do but that happened to me and the people that were a part of my wedding going to my comms team, saying, I know this didn’t happen. I don't have to tell them what actually happened, but I can at least go on the record saying, ‘She didn't make her cry'."

Details from Harry's book emerged after a bookstore in Spain started selling the memoir five days early.

It is not due to be released until Tuesday (January 10) with Harry having several TV interviews lined up to promote it over the weekend.

This story is based off a translated version of Prince Harry ’s memoir Spare. Spare published by Penguin Random House will be available to buy in the UK on January 10.
