Kate Middleton's cute comment to Princess Charlotte as she walks into school on first day

It was an exciting day for the Cambridge family as Princess Charlotte joined her big brother at school for the first time.

Prince William and Kate dropped both kids off at Thomas's Battersea just after 8am this morning, and they both looked very proud of their little girl.

The Duchess had some encouraging words for Charlotte as they walked through the school doors after being greeted by their teacher, and they were about Prince George.

In a video showing the family arriving for the special day, Kate can be heard saying: "George will have to show you the way."

How cute!

According to a royal expert, George is very protective of his sister and will definitely show her the ropes when it comes to settling into life at the south London private school.

Royal biographer Penny Junor told Hello magazine: "Prince George is a very protective and lovely older brother.

"I'm sure he'll look after his little sister and take great pride in showing her the ropes."

The Cambridges arrived at the school by car as other parents dropped off their children at the south London school.

Charlotte looked adorable in her new school uniform, including a very smart new bag with a sparkly sequin unicorn keyring.

George started at the school in 2017 and is said to be doing very well there, so it's easy to see why Kate and William decided to send Charlotte there too.

They are also both regulars on the school run, so having both kids at the same school will make things a lot easier for them in the mornings.

George and Charlotte are said to be very close, so we're sure it will be a comfort to them both to have each other at the same school.

And according to a source their relationship is even more important as playdates with other non-royal children can be "tricky" .

They said: "They are close in age, and they spend so much time together. Playdates [with outsiders] can be tricky, so they learn to lean on each other."

However there are differences between the two kids, and Charlotte is "more outgoing" than her "reserved" big brother.
