Kate Middleton has given birth to a baby boy, the latest addition to the British royal family and fifth in line to the throne.
The baby was born at 11:01 a.m. Monday weighing 8 lbs., 7 ounces, Kensington Palace wrote on Twitter.
Both mother and child are doing well.
The Duchess of Cambridge had traveled to St. Mary's Hospital in west London with Prince William early Monday morning "in the early stages of labor."
Middleton's baby is the 36-year-old's third, after Prince George was born in 2013 and Princess Charlotte arrived two years later.
The infant is fifth in line to the British throne after Prince Charles, Prince William, and its two siblings. Princess Charlotte becomes the first princess not to be knocked off of the order by a younger brother.
Middleton's delivery comes amid of flurry of headlines for those around the House of Windsor, with Prince Harry and American fiancee Meghan Markle expected to tie the knot next month and reports that Middleton's sister Pippa is pregnant with her first child.
The new arrival narrowly missed having the same birthday as its grand-grandmother Queen Elizabeth, who celebrated her 92nd on Saturday, though was born on the birthday of one-time royal chronicler William Shakespeare.
A name for the recently born royal has also been a subject of speculation, with Arthur and James among the most popular bets at gambling shop Ladbrokes.
After the palace said that other members of the royal family were "delighted" by the news, British Prime Minister Theresa May offered her own congratulations to the new parents and said "I wish them great happiness for the future."
