Kate Middleton and Prince William have 'top-secret room and tunnel' at Kensington Palace

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge reportedly have a panic room and secret tunnel inside their home.

William and Kate live at apartment 1A inside Kensington Palace with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

The Queen gave William and Kate the keys to the residence, which they also share with the Duke and Duchess of Kent, following their royal wedding in 2011.

The 20-room family home features five reception rooms, three main bedrooms, dressing rooms, a night and day nursery, and staff quarters.

But it is reported that it also comes complete with a top-secret panic room and a special escape tunnel to protect them from 'biological welfare.'

"Kate and William’s royal apartment at Kensington Palace includes a panic room with an air filtration system, guarding against biological warfare, and an escape tunnel," revealed the Global Citizen .

It is a matter of royal safety that they have such a room on-site in case of an emergency, after all, both William and George are in line to sit on the throne.

The secret tunnel may come as less of a surprise for many royal fans as it has now been widely reported that Prince William and Prince Harry often used a secret entrance to the palace while growing up.

This often happened when the boys would sneak out to McDonald’s with their mother Princess Diana.

Other members of the royal family also have similar high-tech security setups, like the Queen, who too has a panic room at Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace.

"The royal panic rooms are designed to withstand poison gas, bombs or terrorist attacks; they are equipped with secure communications, beds, washing equipment and enough food and water for the royals to survive for at least a week," the Global Citizen added.

It also noted that the Queen's panic rooms are "encased in 18 inch thick, bullet-resistant, fire-retardant steel walls."

Reports also say that Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla's Highgrove House features an 'iron' room - the size of a shipping container - that can be used in matters of emergency.

Very few people will know exactly where the panic room is located with each royal residence, to, once again, ensure the safety of the royals.
