Kate Garraway shares lesson learnt as husband Derek nears a year in hospital

Kate Garraway has revealed the main lesson she's learnt during the last year as her husband Derek Draper remains in hospital following his battle with coronavirus.

Derek was admitted to hospital last March with covid-19 and was put into a coma in April as his condition deteriorated.

Former Labour party adviser Derek is now covid free but he has been left with multiple health issues and remains in hospital battling these conditions.

This week Good Morning Britain star Kate spoke to Hello! magazine about the "toughest" times she's experienced this year and just what she's learned during this time.

She said: "In the darkest of times you can find goodness and love just when you need it most and helping each other is the only way we will get through this grimmest of times.

"I've learnt about the kindness of strangers."

Kate added: "It has been the toughest of times for me and my family, as it has for so many others and the good wishes and sympathy from viewers and listeners has really helped.

"To know so many people are thinking of me and sending love has given me hope and strength and I'm very grateful."

Kate shares two children with Derek, Darcey, 14, and Billy, 11, who are both missing their father.

Last week Kate revealed she is still not allowed to visit her husband due to coronavirus restrictions.

The Good Morning Britain presenter hasn't seen Derek Draper in person for two months, despite being his wife.

On Friday's show after boxing legend Frank Bruno told her to give Derek his regards, she replied: "Unfortunately I'm not allowed to and I haven't been for two months, but I shall try and pass that message on."
