Kate Garraway shares Derek Draper's agonising last words as he was put into ambulance before coma

Kate Garraway has revealed her Covid-stricken husband Derek Draper's final words to her as he was loaded into an ambulance last year.

Derek was diagnosed with Covid-19 during the first wave of the pandemic, and entered a coma on April 5

Kate shared his 'heartbreaking' texts after he was rushed to hospital last year, reports Birmingham Live.

In her new memoir The Power Of Hope, which is being serialised by The Mail on Sunday, Kate said he told her in the text: "This is not the last time you will see me. It isn’t."

Yet the Good Morning Britain presenter admitted: "He would never have said that if at least a small part of him hadn’t been wondering if it was."

She then revealed he told her: "I want you at the funeral."

After more than 373 days in hospital, Derek was allowed home earlier this month.

He was taken off all machines and breathing apparatus but continues to receive care at home.

Kate adapted their home in his absence to make it more accessible for at-home care.

Finding Derek, a documentary exploring his illness and its effect on their two children, was broadcast last month on ITV.

One scene showed Kate as she remembered being told by Derek’s doctors that he was the most seriously ill person they had seen who remained alive.

Kate initially walked away from GMB in the wake of Derek's diagnosis and health battle, but she returned last summer after doctors urged her to get some semblance of her life back.

She shares two kids with Derek, a former Labour Party adviser, named Darcey and Billy.
