Kate Garraway ignored Piers Morgan's advice when her husband fell ill with Covid

Kate Garraway has told that she at first ignored some sage advice from Piers Morgan when her husband fell ill with Covid-19.

Good Morning Britain's Kate has penned The Power of Hope, which documents her nightmare year after husband Derek was hospitalised with the virus.

He was hospitalised in April and doctors put him into a coma the following month.

Derek's now back at home with Kate and the kids, but requires round-the-clock care.

Meanwhile Kate told Iain Dale on LBC Radio yesterday that the book may never had happened after she ignored Piers' urging to take notes.

"It was actually Piers Morgan who very early on...said 'you've got to write this down'," Kate recalled.

"And I didn't, really, because they're didn't seem time to write things down. But he said to just write words that you'll remember because...he said you won't remember some of these things.

"And also I was taking huge amounts of notes, so in the very early days when Derek was sick, and I was trying to get through to hospitals, you were getting different people each time, often people who weren't actually treating Derek, because they were too busy."

She added: "I began to take lots of notes about things like oxygen levels, liver enzymes and everything, so I've got this strange sort of medical book."

Piers, meanwhile, has urged his social media followers to pick up Kate's "powerful, moving" book.

"This is such a fantastic book," he proudly tweeted of his former colleague, "Powerful, moving, heart-breaking, inspiring, courageous and funny.

"Order from the link in her bio. She needs all our support and it’s a truly incredible story about the power of love and hope."

Susanna Reid told Kate she'd "done Derek proud" with The Power of Hope, gushing: "I managed to have a speed read of it this morning. Beautiful book."

During a recent appearance on This Morning, Kate told that Derek has been able to get out some words, but can't have a conversation yet.

"For a long period, he was in the induced coma and then in the middle of the summer last year they realised that he was just in a coma and he couldn't wake up," she explained.

"And then there was a huge period through the autumn of hoping and trying to get some response - and now, you know, there are things that he does that are miraculous."
