The NIRF ranking includes all institutes of national importance such as the IITs, IIITs, NITs, other technological universities and engineering institutes of the country.

The university has also improved its rank by 10 positions and is positioned 72nd among all universities, technical and non-technical, in the country,, which makes it one of the top 100 education institutions in overall category of NIRF-22.

According to vice-chancellor Prof. Karisiddappa, this is a phenomenal achievement by VTU, which is just a 24-year-old state university. It shows that it promotes a good system of education in engineering and research and innovation.
