BENGALURU: While the state grapples with the police sub-inspector (PSI) scam that resulted in the arrest of around 40 persons so far, another recruitment-related fraud has surfaced. Seven persons have been accused of furnishing fake marks cards while applying for different posts in Karnataka state fire & emergency services (KSFES) department.
The fraud came to light recently when KSFES officials were scanning documents provided by the applicants.
They found that at least seven persons had submitted fake SSLC marks cards. TN Shivashankar, deputy director, KSFES, filed a complaint with Bharathinagar police against the accused. The department had invited applications to recruit 1,222 firemen, 309 firemen drivers/mechanics and 36 fire station officers in 2020. The recruitment process was almost nearing completion and the department recently released a provisional selection list.
Candidates named in the provisional list submitted their documents for verification and Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) examined their SSLC marks cards. It submitted a report saying marks cards of seven candidates were not genuine.
The suspects named in the FIR are: Subhash DH from Hospet, Vothol Ningappa from Jewargi, Moula Sab Shameed Sab from Karatagi, Irapanna Rudrodagi Neelappa from Afzalpur, Mallappa Maruthi from Koppal, Ramesh Hallanure Prabhakar Hallanure from Shahapur and Sharif Sab Yamanoorsab from Kustagi.
Police said they have collected the documents for verification and will summon the suspects for investigation soon.
Sources said there is no written exam for recruitment of firemen and drivers, and physical fitness and endurance tests are held to select them. SSLC is the educational qualification to apply for these posts.
